What’s going on?

It’s been a busy year for making art so far! I realise I’ve neglected this blog in the process but hey everything comes in waves. The year started with me finally updating Apricots again which was long overdue. The plan is to continue working on it and hopefully finish it within the next year or so. It’s hard to work on as it’s so old and I’m very aware of it’s flaws but I would like to finish it still.

I entered the Penguin Cover Design Contest this year which was a fun challenge and very out of my comfort zone.

I was also presented with the fabulous opportunity to work on another window display this time for the Sheldonian Theatre which was super fun. Working out how to draw the carved heads was an interesting challenge.

I’ve also done a lot of events- teaching people to make comics and zines as well as tabling at some really fun events. This year I finally took up the challenge of drawing live portraits at events and it was super fun seeing everyone’s reaction to their portraits. Hopefully I can keep doing events and I have some more in-person selling stuff on the horizon.

Recently I’ve made a couple short comics and zines which are either out already or will be soon. I’m currently finishing work on another silly Donald Duck fancomic which will be released before the end of the year. There is one larger comic project which I have been slowly chipping away at but I imagine nothing will be ready to see until next year at the earliest (and realistically probably a bit longer than that).

I’m about to put out a short diary comic about one major change that happened this year which is that I’m currently unemployed. I’ve been doing a bit of freelance art stuff here and there but more work would be appreciated as the job market is shockingly bad. Slightly downer at the end there sorry! I’m doing okay for now but some extra help would be very welcome. Anyway one great silver lining is having loads of time to make art and improve which is always the goal.
